A classic Cheshire coaching inn built c.1625, and some of the original timbers survive which has enabled its age to be verified, but the external half timbering dates from a restoration in 1896. From the 19th century the pub was owned by Wilson’s brewery of Manchester which closed in 1987. The pub closed in January 2010 but reopened in November 2011 under new ownership ( https://www.thewhitebearmiddlewich.co.uk/about-us/ ). Despite the evidence of C17 construction, surprisingly it is not statutorily listed.
