The disparity between Muscliffe Lane and nearby Muscliff – without an 'e' – is something of a local sticking point. Muscliffe Road in Winton, about a mile south, until recently had an old, metal embossed signboard in which the 'e' was not embossed but subsequently painted. The consensus, if there is one, seems to be that the placename has no 'e' but the roads now do. Indeed, the discrepancy exists on the Ordnance Survey maps, the suburb of 'Muscliff' being shown on the 1:50,000 map but 'Muslciffe' on the 1:25,000.
