The pub is now called the Swan and Chequers Image which may have been its historic name, but at one time it was the Swan Hotel. Stewart Green's local history page indicates it dates from 1834 or earlier, and had this name until at least the First World War. The terracotta detailing of the swan itself suggests it may have been rebuilt or at least adapted in the late 19th century when this was a popular material.
