Forncett Industrial Steam Museum - Jessop & Appleby engine

This museum was established by Dr Rowan Francis and is now operated by a trust although Dr Francis is still very much involved. This was the first engine he acquired. It was built in 1897 by Jessop & Appleby of Leicester and started its life in the vinegar brewery of Crosse & Blackwell in north London. In 1929 it was transferred to Sarsons Malt Vinegar Brewery in Tower Bridge Road. The slide valve cylinder is 8" x 14" and the flywheel is 4' 6" diameter. The curved spokes are relatively unusual on a steam engine.
