Outcrop of the New Red Sandstone, here referred to the Corrie Sandstone, of Permian age. Large-scale cross-stratification is presented as variably-coloured bands running across the image, though the structural dip of the beds is towards the sea. Ridges running at right-angles to the bedding traces are cemented fault-traces, now standing proud because they are less easily eroded. Colourful and wonderful rocks, and well exposed on the post-glacial rock platform.
