St Martin’s Church was originally built as a chapel of ease of Saint Alkmund, Shrewsbury in the twelfth century and was probably altered during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Latterly, it became a parish church and was extended and partially rebuilt in 1866 although most of the nineteenth century work was removed in 1973 when the church became redundant; it is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust (https://www.visitchurches.org.uk/visit/church-listing/st-martin-preston-gubbals.html Visit Churches UK). The church is a Grade II* listed building (List Entry: 1175242 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1175242 Historic England).
