A family of swans and cygnets swim around beside Anchor House (which was the Anchor Inn many years ago). The Erewash Canal was traditionally known as the bottom cut to distinguish it from the top cut or Nottingham Canal which ran more or less parallel a short distance to the east but has long been abandoned.
