The tower is 50 feet in height and built in the Renaissance style. The foundation stone was laid by Mr Edward White JP on 13 August 1891, and was completed on the 17th June 1892. The tower bears the following inscription: ‘Here I stand with all my might to tell the hour by day and night. Therefore example take by me and serve thy God as I serve thee’. It stands on the eastern edge of Preston Park, next to Preston Park Avenue.
