Dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and probably incorporating earlier fragments (there was a mill on the River Wear in this position during the Middle Ages), this was originally a water mill and house. It is now an archaeology museum. A Grade II listed building (List Entry Number: 1120711 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1120711 Historic England).
