A notice at the gate begins: "Stoneleigh Meadows were privately purchased in 1982 and established as a Registered Charity providing recreational space for Stoneleigh Village and visitors to the village". The timber post-and-rail fence by Vicarage Road is a form that traditionally used rails of cleft sweet chestnut supported by sawn or hewn oak posts, both durable timbers.
