The church first gathered at low tide on the beach between 1850-1870 and the new church opened in 1870 at a cost of £750. It was unusual for this period, being for the use of all Nonconformist denominations. The architect here was probably the builder, a Mr Beeton. The constitution stipulates that Union will be at least two denominational and will support the work of two free church denominations. In 1890 the church officially joined the Congregational and Baptist denominations and was affiliated with the Evangelical Alliance.
