The Police Station wording has either been deliberately chipped off or possibly eroded away. Presumably the stone 'badge' relates to the Sheffield Constabulary or possibly West Riding Constabulary? Image ... Update in March 2012 ... Martin Speck has contacted me with the following information … "I think the 'badge', a sheaf of arrows is the coat of arms of the Burgery of Sheffield, sometimes called Sheffield Town Trust. The emblem has been incorporated into the present coat of arms." Thanks Martin.
