The 12 miles of road from Huddersfield to Penistone, now A629, was first enacted to become a tollroad in 1777. Six stone milestones remain. This route was not considered important enough to have the new WRCC milestones in 1893/94. This stone is on Dogley Lane, 100m north of the junction with Far Dean, signed Highburton.
