This view from the battlements on the northeastern side of Stirling Castle looks towards the Wallace Monument on Abbey Craig and encompasses the battlefield of the Battle of Stirling Bridge (11th September 1297) where William Wallace defeated the English. He became Guardian of Scotland thereafter although he resigned this position less than a year later after losing the Battle of Falkirk (22nd July 1298).
