Local tradition has it that cannon produced in the nearby furnace on Old Forge Lane had their barrels bored and calibrated here. When the furnace ceased working in the mid 17th century the site became a corn mill that operated until the beginning of the 20th century. All that remains is the large pond now used as trout farm and the weatherboarded barn and mill house, the latter undergoing some kind of restoration.
