The Boat Inn car park is tiny and the nearby road very narrow so when the elvers arrive around February to March, parking can be a problem. The young eels can fetch high prices in the UK, China and Japan and the fishermen must have licences. The elvering industry is regulated by the Environment Agency and night time patrols are carried out to stop illegal poaching with trawler nets.
