The bridge here is a swing bridge, which carries Hillhead Road over the Forth and Clyde Canal. It was built in the 1930s to replace an original drawbridge. The small building on the right is the control cabin. Having fallen into disrepair it was restored and refurbished in 2000-2001 and is now operational again when required.
