Above the door is an inscribed stone Image which is quite difficult to read due to the black paint. ERECTED BY THE ROMAN FORT LODGE IOGT AND FRIENDS 1872 The building (now split into three premises) was originally opened as a temperance hall in 1872. According to the Glasgow Herald of 3 May 1872, the hall was being built under the auspices of members of the Roman Fort Lodge of Good Templars (part of the International Organisation of Good Templars), who had formed the lodge in March 1872.
