Burton's has had it

On the corner of High Street and Regent Street is a large store, now divided into a coffee parlour and a video games shop. It was originally the Burton's menswear store, built in about 1932 and designed by their architect, Harry Wilson. In common with other branches nationwide, it is a particularly stylish work featuring elephant heads in an Art Deco fashion. However, Burton's have had to move with the times and left the site, only for other businesses to move in. Despite the striking work, it was recently decided by Historic England that it was not of suitable substance to be given listed building status. They called the ground floor appearance as garish.
