This rather splendid looking hotel is in the centre of Tring opposite the church. It is of course Mock Tudor dating from the early C20th, but still an attractive building I think. It replaced an old coaching inn which stood on the site but which was hard against the road, not set back like this one. That older hostelry was torn down and a more salubrious replacement erected on the orders of the Rothschild family who held considerable sway in and around Tring in times gone by - mainly by dint of owning large areas of it! [Update 2013] Regrettably, this, the only hotel in the town centre closed in late 2012 and is being converted to dwellings for "over 55s" - a major loss to the town and a sad reflection on town planning of the C21st.
