Houses in Princes Road, Petersfield

This is a view south along this unassuming suburban road in the western part of Petersfield. The houses facing towards the viewpoint in the centre of the image are in Noreuil Road, local pronunciation of which is pronounced 'Gnaw-ree-ul' Road by local residents. The reason the road is so named is that after the first world war many places in England raised money for villages totally devastated by war. The local Mayor's son had been billeted at Noreuil, and thus this small settlement, little more than a hamlet in the Pas-de-Calais Département, was chosen.
