Taken when Bridgegate still led to a bridge over the River Irvine, rather than being the modern pedestrianised street https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4073973 leading to the Rivergate Shopping Centre. The little building on the corner has been replaced with modern retail and office development https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5695957 . A.A. was one of three consortia of small bus operators in west Ayrshire, in this instance serving principally the Ayr to Ardrossan corridor. By the 1970s, the original 7 operators had reduced to three, and this particular bus was operated by Gailes Coaches (Tumilty) of Irvine. It is MXX181, a former London Transport RT, new in 1953 and purchased in 1964. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=137652761
