Guildford: The Astolat public house

Being a stranger to Guildford I have to confess to a screech-by, followed by a Google search, with this one! Apparently Astolat was, according to Arthurian legend, a place somewhere in the middle of Surrey, whence cometh Elaine, the Fair Maid of Astolat otherwise known as the Lady of Shalott. However, before I made this discovery, and the fact that Astolat is an old name for Guildford, a Google UK search showed this pub first followed by the Astolat MRC second. MRC stands for Model Railway Circle and I did briefly harbour notions that the lady in the mediaeval white dress on the pub sign was some dignitary of the Model Railway Circle, all tooled up for a hard night's tracklaying... Back to more prosaic matters, The Astolat, together with its neighbour, the local One-Stop shop, can be found on Old Palace Road.
