St Donat's Castle is thought to have originated in the twelfth century and has been continuously occupied until the present day. It used to be owned by Randolph Hearst the American newspaper magnate who used to spend holidays there and sometimes bring influential friends to stay (including Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and the young John F. Kennedy). It is now 'Atlantic College', an international sixth form college, the first of 12 around the world to be established in 1962.
