This pub on St Michael's Hill seems to have fallen during the Covid era. Shame, as it has been trading for many years and has kept its name for at least 150, unlike so many others. It has nothing to do with people from north of the border, nor the famous liquor. It derives from the term 'scotch' (various spellings) that were wooden wedges placed under cart wheels to stop them rolling back down steep hills - like this one! A scotchman was the carter who delivered goods.
