Red Castle - Castell Coch

Surrounded by the woods of Fforest Fawr, the castle was constructed upon the remains of a 13th Century castle which was used as a hunting lodge by Gilbert de Clare. In 1871 the third Marquess of Bute commissioned William Burges (Architect and Designer) to restore and create a medieval fantasy incorporating the two great towers.
