Repairing the Roof

The roofs are tiled with 'Carmyllie Slate' which isn't slate, but Devonian Old Red Sandstone. Glamis Estate, which owns these buildings, has stored the 'slates' from demolished buildings for repairing roofs, because the quarries at Carmyllie are no longer producing the material.
