Former North Eastern Railway 0-6-0 goods locomotive, later LNER class J21 and finally British Railways 65033. After withdrawal it was considered for a place in the National Collection, which is how it came to be at this location, but preservation did not become a reality until 1972 when it was purchased for use at Beamish Museum. It has since had a varied life https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2532001 , and at the time of writing it is undergoing restoration prior to removal to the Stainmore Railway Company at Kirkby Stephen. Beyond it can be seen the chassis of an unidentified A4 pacific locomotive (e.g. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6158966 )
