Castle House was a department store and headquarters of the Sheffield Co-operative Society, a consumer co-operative founded in 1868 as the Brightside and Carbrook Co-operative. The building was constructed in 1962 to a design by G S Hay of the Co-operative Wholesale Society. In 2007 the Sheffield Co-op merged with the national Co-operative Group and the department store closed the following year. The building, which still bears the sign of the Sheffield Co-op, was given Grade II listed building status in 2009 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Co-operative_Society .
