Before my parents had the phone I was often detailed to phone my grandparents and tell them we wereall OK. One Sunday morning the phone rang and rang (I was specifically told to hang on and allow them time to get there). Eventually Grandad picked it up, bellowed "Its no use you ringing, they're all out!" and put the phone down.
