Rudyard Kipling lived nearby at Bateman's from 1902 until his death in 1936. The house is now owned by the National Trust - see https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/batemans His only son, John, is commemorated on the nearby war memorial - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4881158 The Burwash Map is much more recent.
