Initially a very select suburb of Tunbridge Wells developed from the 1850s onwards upon the ridge separating Tunbridge Wells with the Sussex Weald. The house gives an idea of who the suburb was aimed at but has now had its driveway and grounds turned into a small cul-de-sac.
