The tower of the former Prudential Assurance building by Alfred Waterhouse stands at the junction of King and Queen Streets. In the shadows to the right, on King Street, Watson Fothergill's Jessops Furnishing store, later to become part of the John Lewis Partnership, and now separate retail outlets.
