The artist LS Lowry (1887-1976) was intrigued by these pot lions and once considered buying this large house on the Elizabethan Walls in Berwick in 1947. He changed his mind though when an architect friend told him it was ridden with damp. Lowry was especially fond of Berwick and visited the town many times. There is a Lowry Trail here in Berwick.
