One of a series of small sculptures by artist Peter Walker that was installed along the length of Market Avenue in October 2008 in the lead-up to the re-opening of the Market Hall. The sculptures draw on the town’s history whilst enhancing the street scene for visitors to Ashton bringing a smile to people’s faces and surprising passers-by. This one features a coal miner breaking through the surface and emerging onto the pavement.
