Now a private residence, this is the former Green Tree Inn in Ditcheat. It dates from the nineteenth century and served up to the 1960s. It was the home of a 'friendly society' of the past that helped to raise funds for the less well-off. The society had its headquarters here, and had a branch in Ansford. On special days the society would go to the church for a service and then a village walk. Part of this procession included the carrying of poles with ornate brass tops. One such can be seen in the Jardine Collection of Reading University. See http://www.reading.ac.uk/adlib/Details/collect/10426.
