This area of Ashton was once open land before the nineteenth century brought much housing and industry. Firstly, the Victoria Cavendish works (the Export Department of W.D. & H.O Wills) were constructed around the late 1880s - of the Wills Tobacco empire. Here one of the old buildings (originally a garage) has been redeveloped into modern residential use, but with a nod to its past.
