No longer very square in shape or atmosphere, the Square forms the junction between the High Street, pedestrianised in 1994, and Church Hill Road and New Road, which carry traffic around the edge of the central business district. The Masons Arms, with its distinctive wavy parapet, is among the historic buildings that have survived. The war memorial, off to the left of the picture, casts a long shadow in the foreground.
