This monument is looking very sad at present. Despite being listed it was in danger of being damaged or moved out of the way of the commercial development behind the fence, but was saved by two Kirklees councillors. Now it is in rough waste-land with a fence so close that vit is difficult to see the inscription on the western side (see Image] and Image]). If money could be found the fence should be moved back a bit and land around the cross turned into a park.
