This arch bridge used to carry a railway through Whitby. The line closed in stages between 1958 and 1965. The railway route now forms the Cinder Track path from Scarborough to Whitby. The Cinder Track is itself part of the route of National Cycle Network route 1. Here, the path has descended from the railway and passes through this arch into Whitby. Visible through the arch is Whitby Abbey.
