Ordnance Survey documents indicate that a benchmark was levelled at 62.410 feet above Liverpool Datum during the 1844/5 Carlisle to Sark Bridge 1GL Survey on the parapet. The surveyor's description was 'No. 21. Mark on top of battlement over West pier of small bridge ; 4.68 ft. above keystone, and 3.22 ft. above surface'
