The front of this large house, now a children's residential care home, faces onto the A705 Blackburn to Whitburn road, but the main entrance is on Redmill Cottages (not Old Mill Court as the OS online mapping indicates - this begins further down). I had initially ruled out it ever having been a garage due to there being no way in to its red doors because the house is in the way. However, old maps show that for an unknown period of time before the late 1950s, the house was far smaller, meaning this may have been a possibility. If so it must have had an additional purpose too judging by the archway.
