Although the railway line through here was opened in 1846 by the grandly named Great North of England, Clarence and Hartlepool Junction Railway, connecting Ferryhill with Hartlepool, no station at West Cornforth was shown in Bradshaw's Railway Timetable until 1866. The station was called "Threslington" until 1891, and closed to passengers in 1952. View south west towards Ferryhill, also Spennymoor, from the former level crossing. There were two parallel platforms here. Some of the track was still in situ when this image was taken, as were the entrance gates to both platforms, even though the platforms have long since disappeared.
