Counter Drain Drove at former railway crossing

The line was part of the Midland and Great Northern system, built as the Spalding and Bourne Railway, opened 1866, closed 1964. Passenger use ceased in 1959. A house was built by the gate on the right in the 1930s for a crossing keeper when the signal box was closed. The gate was on the approach to Counter Drain station and goods yard, some way off to the right. The house has been very recently demolished - see a 2010 view when it was there: Image The bridge over the Counter Drain survives on the left.
