Edward Chance was a member of the family of glassmakers Chance Brothers of Smethwick in Birmingham. The company was a leading glass maker producing the glass for the Crystal Palace of the 1851 Great Exhibition, and the glass for the clock face of Big Ben. Chance Brothers ceased making glass in 1976 and for a period were owned by Pilkingtons. After a buyout in 1992 Chance Glass are now in Malvern Link, next to the Morgan car factory. Edward Chance lived at Lawnside on Albert Road South in Malvern
