The sign depicts the church of St Mary and a representation of the Old Hall. In front of the hall are two anonymous mediaeval figures. Beneath the name, in the centre is a representation of the Norman font, which has an ugly face carved into each of the four corners. The two coats of arms belong to the Hamond family who settled at South Wootton by the early 17th century and granted arms in 1698, and of the Howard family granted to Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk in 1483. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6815172
