Remains of Rothwell Castle on the right, with the tower of Holy Trinity Church in the background. The castle dates from the 11th century, when it would have been of timber construction. It was used as a royal hunting lodge from the 13th century, and was once in the possession of John of Gaunt. This pillar is all that remains to be seen.
