These intrepid walkers are exploring new vistas and seeking a higher plane of enlightenment by gazing at objects like trees, hills, hedges, potholes and barbed wire topped fences as they pass them. A curious hobby. But then they are a curious bunch. My good friends... Like most walkers they cannot explain why precisely they walk. They may speak of the beauties of nature, the benefits of amusing camaraderie, the satisfaction of map reading and navigation, even the harbouring of a fetish for the kit / gear / technical jargon of what they wear or carry... I think that walking is a hard-wired activity that many people are compelled to do, humans having explored since leaving Africa when we numbered maybe a few thousand individuals, maybe even just a few hundred... There are worse hobbies for sure.
