I have 17 years policing experience but am new to West Midlands, having recently transferred from West Mercia.

During my time there, I performed various roles including 24/7 Response, Control Room Inspector, Tactical Firearms Commander, Problem Solving, Chief Officer Support and Neighbourhood Policing.

Therefore, I have an appreciation of what local concerns mean to the community and how important it is to deal with these issues to make sure they feel safe.

Robbery

Response (17 Sep 2024)

Across the Western Sector of Solihull efforts are being made to tackle the issue of robbery and theft from person from all teams in the area.

To tackle such offences the message that this is unacceptable must be communicated early to young people from across the LPA. Our PCSO’s and dedicated schools’ officers work hard every week to engage with schools and youth groups in the area to both increase understanding about the impact of knife crime and robbery on both the wider community and individuals. Dealing with young people who are potentially at risk of becoming involved in crime, and disrupting those who would wish to draw them into that, are a key focus for the LPA’s safeguarding of young people.

Where robberies are committed in the area we take a robust approach to arrest offenders and prosecute them to the full extent of the law. We do this in conjunction with other departments such as our dedicated response and investigation teams. We continue to ensure that there is zero tolerance for such offending and the victims are offered our full support to ensure that best evidence is achieved.
As neighbourhood teams we ensure proactive work is carried out to deter offending and gather intelligence about both offenders and offending hotspots. We carry out daily patrols around our area and targeted patrols whereby we look to have a visible presence in areas, such as Solihull Town Centre, at times when we have experienced robberies in the past.

Across the Western Sector of Solihull efforts are being made to tackle the issue of robbery and theft from person from all teams in the area.

We recognise the need to educate young people around robbery and knife crime. In the lead up to Sceptre week – the national policing knife crime intensification week – LEOS NHT are busy making plans with our partners to contribute towards some enforcement and engagement within the community. This will see a high visibility presence in areas identified by our Local Intelligence Team and a Police and Community Together meeting along with schools visits within the area.

Burglary and Vehicle Crime

Response (22 Nov 2024)

It goes without saying that everyone should feel safe in their home, and it is important to underline that the great majority of the time, people’s homes are safe. However, we recognise that burglary is a very traumatic and impactive experience so will prioritise not only the way we respond to reports of burglary, but the way we try to prevent it happening in the first place. We will combine intelligence led proactive patrols, targeting of offenders, crime prevention initiatives and wraparound victim care to focus on reducing the occurrence and impact of burglary.

Our communities can be confident that they live in a relatively safe place. Unfortunately, theft of motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles can be a problem. Therefore, we will look to combine proactive operations, using overt police tactics and technological initiatives, with bespoke crime prevention methods, to reduce the effect that vehicle crime has on people’s lives and livelihoods.

The LEOS NHT have been performing proactive patrols both high visibility and plain clothes, in areas of high vehicle crime. The focus has been locating suspects and ensuring that the appropriate sanctions are delivered achieving positive criminal justice outcomes.

These patrols have seen drug seizures through stop and searches and the seizure of a stolen motor vehicle on Hobs Moat Road. Within the vehicle was also stolen registration plates and a knife. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the offender who ran away from the vehicle.

Information from the public is vital in helping us direct our patrols to deal with issues that matter to you most.

This set of shifts has seen the LEOS NHT work with our Citizens In Policing initiative Street Watch, where we have conducted high visibility patrols in the community.

As part of our Darker Nights campaign and ASB intensification week LEOS NHT have placed on a community beat surgery at The Hub Muslim Community Centre, and The Family Hub, Elmdon, where crime prevention advice and handy giveaways such as light timers were provided. Business Crime

Response (22 Nov 2024)

Solihull Town Centre with Touchwood, and the neighbouring towns like Shirley, are the heart of the community. We understand the impact that business crime has on our partners and their livelihoods and we pledge to work in concert with the Local Authority and Business Improvement District to tackle business crime more efficiently and promote the well-being of our towns.

The LEOS NHT works closely with local businesses to help deal with crime and ASB affecting their financial earnings and safety of staff and their customers.

Our PCSO dedicated for the Town Centre has been out patrolling with our partners in BID dealing with ASB derived from groups of youths and deterring shoplifting from businesses.

As part of the ASB Intensification week, we have worked with our Local Intelligence Team and identified ASB hotspots some of which encompass local shops and stalls. LEOS NHT are briefed on these hotspot areas and are tasked with high visibility and plain clothes patrols to deter and detect ASB and criminal activity.

This set of shifts has seen the LEOS NHT engage with numerous local business within the LEOS and town centre listening to and acting on their needs and concerns.
We always encourage businesses to report offences with a view to support any prosecution or out of court disposals if appropriate.

In Solihull, as in the rest of West Midlands Police force area, we are dedicated to tackling and reducing domestic violence wherever it occurs and safeguarding victims from future abuse. We are also committed to raising awareness of VAWG and making our public places as safe as possible so that women and girls can enjoy everything Solihull has to offer with confidence.
