A twin beam blowing built in 1851 by Murdoch, Aitken and Company of Glasgow for the Priorslee Furnaces near Oakengates. The engines were retired in 1952 and donated to Ironbridge Gorge Museum in 1971. This shows the lower valves and valve drive mechanism on one of the two steam cylinders. The cylinders are 38.75" x 7' 10.625" and fitted with drop valves operated by a gear driven camshaft. The cylinders took steam at 42 pounds per square inch. The engines developed up to 269 indicated horsepower and could deliver 12,500 cubic feet of air per minute to the furnaces at 4-4.5 pounds per square inch.
